There is a process to becoming a good putter under pressure. First you must be able to make putts consistently in practice. Then you must be able to transfer that skill to pressure situations like tournaments. If you can’t hit the shot when there is no pressure then you will not do so when the pressure builds.. |

Well when I first heard of Greg’s record for the most courses, that gave me the idea to go for it myself. I knew at the time I could- I had (would have) the time, motivation and money. It would be something most of us wish to do, and because I had the chance, I took it. |

The best part of playing all of these courses might be that I’ve been able to apply what I’ve seen to my game and to my design work. After 1,000+ courses you get a pretty good feel for what works and what doesn’t. I am not as often ‘pleasantly’ surprised with something well done as ‘disappointed’ with something that was done poorly. |

We walked as a group up to the green and that’s when I saw my disc about 8 feet out. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. It is an unbelievable feeling to finally capture that Major win, and cap off a great season. |

Over time I truly think it was the relationships that I built that put me in the position to pull off The Players Cup with the support from the FFT players and staff. I also think having integrity goes a long way to keeping things moving in the right direction and we always strive to lead by example. |

Winning player of the year in 1987 and losing Worlds by 1 stroke was a bit of a disappointment but it gave me hope for the future. Then 1989 worked out for me. Again winning player of the year and finally winning the Worlds satisfied that goal that I was working so hard to reach. |

I would like to see the PDGA just focus on getting new members and running more tournaments for amateurs to play on a week-to-week basis. I would like to see PDGA fees drop for Amateurs; I mean - make it 20 bucks - that way everyone can register. |

Winthrop Gold can make a good disc golfer look silly. You cannot let your guard down anywhere on the course. You cannot get rattled. If you lose your confidence, it’s over. The weak and the timid simply have no place to hide. |

The keys to me playing well are keeping focused on what I am doing. If I am going through my routine and am focused I almost always seem to play better than when I don’t. It’s always good to stay relaxed and in the game mentally and physically. |

I do not claim any ownership of the sport, it belongs to everyone. So if you feel inclined to participate, please do. If you need help or advice, I am here for you. The local members of the MDGF have a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of the game. From your computer, we are only a click away. |

We will finally have a website built on top of a real content management system. This will allow PDGA staff and volunteers to be able easily publish new content, stories, updates, etc. to the members and disc golf community in a timely fashion. |

We hope that having an online community of players will allow both rookies and veterans to meet new disc golfers, discover new courses and find new clubs, and that definitely can’t hurt the sport, especially for new players (disc golf can be an intimidating sport for newbies). |

Being on the Conan show was an experience I will never forget. What sticks out in my mind is the professionalism. They picked me up in a limo - they put me up at the Ritz Carlton top floor with an executive suite where I could come out of my room at 3 in the morning and say, “I’ll take a bowl of raspberries,” and they’d be waiting at my feet. |

A lot of the time I encounter women that don’t play because they “can’t throw as far as the guys,” so they don’t even try. The guys they’re playing with didn’t quit after the first time they played, and neither should the women. Don’t be embarrassed in the first year, experiment and find a throw that you’re comfortable with. |

It’s very exciting to be able to execute a hole concept that I’ve never done before. One of the great things about disc golf course design right now is that there is so much we still haven’t done, and every new property offers new opportunities to innovate. I love being able to say, “This is a great hole, and it’s not like any hole I’ve ever created or seen.” |

The Vibram Open allowed me to establish my vision of what the event should be and put the pieces and the people in place to make that vision a reality. The amazing thing for me was how well everything fit into place. I suppose tons of preparation had something to do with our success. |

This game is about 75% confidence, 20% skill and 5% luck from an advanced level player and up. Those 950 golfers have the skill usually, they just don’t have the confidence… …Take the higher percentage shot and take the bogie’s out of the game, your birdies will come. |
